Our history

After completing 7 years of college with undergraduate and graduate Tom began his business career in the construction industry owning and operating several companies before deciding to work as a Senior Business Consultant for a major international consulting firm.

His first encounter with the fencing industry came during a consulting engagement in November of 1995. Tom became close friends with the owner and operator of Miller Fence Company of Worcester, Mass, Mr. Joseph Miller. The experience was so profound and made such a positive impact on Tom he decided open Profit Builders international and focus entirely on the fencing industry. Here is what Mr. Joe Miller had to say about Tom’s work at Miller Fence.

Currently we have somewhere close to 100 clients with both our “Roadmap to Success” system and/or full, direct consulting engagement clients. Our client base includes national accounts like Merchants Metals, Master Halco, IronWorld Fencing in Maryland and many others; as well as regional vendors like DuraMax, Digger Specialties, Finyl Vinyl, Anchor Fence, USA Fence, Ideal Aluminum, and CMM.

Our main client base however, is and always has been, regional mom and pop fencing contractors who have grown into major fencing contractors in their respective market area, and we have many, many more of those clients.

Tom has been an Associate Editor and featured columnist for the World Fence News for more than twenty years and now writes regular columns for Fence News USA and FencePost Magazine where hopefully we reached thousands of fencers with thought provoking articles and insights into the industry over those many fun filled and inspirational years.

PBI has tens of thousands of hours over the past 25 years dedicated to helping fencing manufacturers and contractors alike improve their lives and their livelihood by providing them the tools to help them to work smarter (not harder), reduce stress in the workplace and make work fun again, and most importantly, to help them Make More Money.

Profit is NOT a dirty word and profitability is the primary goal for our clients, and to that end I am immensely qualified to aid, mentor, consult and educate fencers on best business practices that allow them to make money, support their family and to get the very most from their fence business.

I literally wrote the book, actually two of them, of profitability in the fencing industry. “The Close” is a sales and marketing guide for the fence industry, and “The Roadmap to Success” is a business management guide for the fence industry. All of my print and electronic file resource material, including my vast data base of cumulated consulting systems and procedures compiled over 25 years of work in the fence industry on every fence topic imaginable, all of this I would make available to my clients.
